The Video Games To Look Out For In 2022 | HypeDrop

As 2022 looks to be a long-awaited turning point in the gaming industry, here's a round-up of the titles we're looking forward to the most!

Since 2020, the gaming industry has been stuck in its own timeloop. Famed titles like God Of War, Rainbow Six, Halo and Horizon all saw multiple setbacks. And despite the announcement of new and exciting titles - like Spider Man 2 and Wolverine - the unprecedented delay of highly anticipated content did leave little to impress.

Working in the depths of a global lockdown has come with multiple difficulties. And if any excuse is good enough for a thinned out release calendar, a pandemic is it. But as we've come to live in this new world, the gaming industry has too. And 2022's lineup looks to be the most promising in years! From God of War Ragnarok to Ghostwire: Tokyo and Hogwarts Legacy (yes, really), here's the titles we're looking forward to the most.

Rainbow Six: Extraction - January 20th, 2021

Originally titled Rainbow Six: Quarantine (and speedily renamed to Rainbow Six: Extraction), this game is a spin-off of Ubisoft's popular Rainbow Six: Siege. You know, the game that practically made lockdown bearable? Set in the same universe, players will team up with fellow operators to fight against a parasitic alien threat.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus - January 28th, 2021

Following the huge success of Pokemon: Go, Pokemon Sword & Shield and the resurgence of Pokemon Cards, Arceus is set to shake up the existing (though popular) formula. Set in an era before humans learned to live with Pokemon, players will survey, catch and research the species to complete the region's first Pokedex.

Horizon Forbidden West - February 18th, 2021

Delayed in Summer, the sequel to fan-favourite Horizon Zero Dawn is finally within arms reach. In the game, players will reunite with Aloy as she takes off to post-apocalyptic San Fransisco, braving the Forbidden West and all that lies in its path. Will we find her mother? And will we ever uncover the secrets of the rebuilt America?

Elden Ring - February 25th, 2021

When Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creator of Dark Souls, and George R.R. Martin announced they were teaming up for Elden Ring, we were sold. Keeping to what they know, the ambitious open-world RPG is set in a medieval land filled with dragons and demigods. Though little else is known about the plot, we don't have long to wait.

Gran Turismo 7 - March 4th, 2021

The famed racing game gets another entry, with promises of the most lifelike 'real driving simulator' yet. At the PlayStation Showcase, Gran Turismo's implementation of ray-traced reflections took the spotlight. Guided via PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller, with haptic feedback and adaptive trigger features, Sony may just live up to their promise.

The Day Before - June 21st, 2021

It's fair to say we've had our fill of open-world survival games set in a deadly, post-apocalyptic America overrun by flesh-hungry zombies. But The Day Before sets an eery tone that we haven't seen since The Last Of Us. The drill's simple - kill zombies, fight for survival and scavenge for food and medicine, all while exploring a familiar America. Will it live up the incomparable? It could be a close second.

Starfield - November 11th, 2021

Billed as the next Skyrim (in Space), Bethesda's first new IP in 25 years is an epic-role playing adventure. In the game, players will create a character of their choosing and explore the universe with absolute freedom. The goal? To answer humanity's greatest mystery. Little other details have been revealed, but we expect to hear more in the coming months.

The Callisto Protocol - TBA, 2021

From the co-creator of the Dead Space series, The Callisto Protocol promises to be the scariest game on next-gen platforms. You'll play as an inmate at a Jupiter prison, haunted by a (you guessed it) predatory alien. As a prisoner, the user will work to uncover the penitentiary's mystery. A tried and tested method, there's always market for a space horror.

Ghostwire: Tokyo - TBA, 2021

Think Avengers: Infinity War, with a lot more death. Ghostwire: Tokyo has long been on our radar, taking place in Tokyo after 99% of the population has disappeared without a trace. As a survivor, you must battle the ghosts that inhibit the city before you become one yourself. Created by the studio behind The Evil Within, we can expect a mystery within the horror.

God Of War Ragnarok - TBA, 2021

2018's God Of War was one of the most heralded of the year. In the sequel, demigod Kratus and his son, Atreus (who we know from the previous game to be Loki), face the impending doom of the end of the world. The developers have said the game will be the “final Norse chapter” in this series, so we have high hopes. And yes, playing as Kratos, you get to fight Thor.

Hogwarts Legacy - TBA, 2021

Don't pretend you're not excited. Aside from the Lego renditions, we've been waiting forever for a decent Harry Potter game. And Hogwarts Legacy promises to be more than that. After suffering a fair amount of controversy, leading to the departure of the original developer, millions of Potter fans will finally be able to design their own character and take classes at Hogwarts. Open-world and set in the 1800's, you'll even get to decide whether to dabble in dark magic.
